Hello—I’ve been waiting for you.

I’m happy that you found me! You can call me Jan (“he, him, his”). Bernabe.info gives you a peek into my professional, creative, and personal passion projects. If you want to chat more about anything on this page, click the link above. It’ll bring you to my calendar and current openings of when I’m free to talk.

I’m a gaga over tech, data-driven solutions, operations and project management. In my last job, I worked as the Operations, New Media, and Curatorial Director for the LA-based art nonprofit organization Center for Art and Thought (CA+T). I managed all the digital media content, led the day-to-day operations, planned and executed programming and social media strategy, and built fantastic relationships with content creators, like artists, writers, and thinkers.

I’ve since moved on from that position and currently looking for opportunities that bridge my operations, program management, and dev skills to an energetic, creative, fast-paced startup environment in the private or nonprofit sectors.

Outside of the office, I am passionate about the intersections of art and civic engagement, LGBTQ, and immigrant rights and advocacy, and harnessing tech’s potential for social good.

I am an autodidact—and an excellent one at that. My current areas of exploration and knowledge acquisition all involve "data," from programming in Python to using Tableau to create data visualizations. Stay tuned for what I create with these new skills!

I also collect contemporary art produced by emerging artists of color.

Sometimes I call myself an academic expat, as I have a Ph.D. in American Culture from the University of Michigan. For reasons beyond anyone’s control (ahem, the Great 2008 Economic Recession), I’ve found more exciting ways to utilize my degree outside of academia. I write and read voraciously. You can read my written work in print and online scholarly journals as well as platforms like Medium and Quora. Last year I co-edited the exciting anthology with Laura Kina titled Queering Contemporary Asian American Art (University of Washington Press, 2017). My doctoral experience amplified my love research and learning.

I’m open to lending my expertise to any creative, tech-oriented, or civic-minded projects. I’d love to know what you are doing and your projects. Schedule a meeting with me (link above) or get in touch with me using any of the social media buttons below.
